Foliocast help

Install, connect Instagram, publish on time, fix common issues. In the plugin, the Help screen also checks your site.

Install

  1. In WordPress: Plugins → Add New, search for "Foliocast", then Install and Activate. Or download it from WordPress.org.
  2. Open Foliocast in the menu: the setup assistant connects Instagram, picks the projects on your site and suggests a first schedule.
  3. A "Getting started" list stays on the plugin's home page until your first post goes out.

Foliocast reads projects where they are: posts, portfolio theme projects (Divi, Jetpack…) or any other public content type. It needs WordPress 6.0 and PHP 7.4 or later.

Connect Instagram

  • Instagram only lets apps publish to professional accounts (Creator or Business). Switching is free and reversible: in the Instagram app, Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account.
  • Click Connect with Instagram: you go through Instagram's official login page. Foliocast never sees your password, and the access is stored encrypted on your own site.
  • "Instagram no longer recognises the access"? Password changed or access removed: reconnect Instagram from Settings → Getting started. Paused posts resume in order.

Publish on time

On its own, WordPress only checks what is due when someone visits your site: at night, a post can be late. Two ways to avoid it:

  • On-time publishing by Foliocast (version 2.10 and later): one click in Settings → Automatic publishing. Our free service calls your site every minute; it only receives your site address and a call key, never your images or credentials.
  • A cron job at your host, every minute, with the command shown in the same place.

Wrong time? Check the time zone in Settings → Maintenance → Advanced options: pick a city (Europe/London) rather than a fixed offset, which ignores daylight saving.

The planner

  • Each project becomes one or more posts: photo, carousel, and a Reel with the Studio plan. Images are cropped to Instagram's formats.
  • Nothing goes out without your approval: a post "to approve" waits for your click.
  • Captions use the title, credits and hashtags for your field, in the language you choose (seven languages).

Studio and licence

  • Paid plans add a module next to the free plugin: automatic Reels, grid mosaics, companion stories, learned posting times. Your schedule and settings are kept.
  • Install the module: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, then paste your key in Foliocast → Settings → License.
  • Licence stopped? The site goes back to the free version: nothing is lost.

Common issues

"Site copy detected"
Foliocast doesn't publish from a staging site or an old address, to avoid duplicates. If this is your real site (new domain name), click This is now the main site in the banner.
An image is refused
Your site converts images with the Imagick PHP extension, or GD as a fallback (JPG and PNG only). With GD, save your images as JPG or PNG, or ask your host to enable Imagick.
Get told when a post fails
Settings → Tracking → Email alerts: choose the address, tick "Post failed", then send a test e-mail.
Is Instagram down?
Meta's API status is on metastatus.com.

Your data

Schedule, images and settings stay on your site; the Instagram access is encrypted there. Deleting the plugin deletes nothing, unless you tick "Delete all data when uninstalling" in the advanced options. Details: privacy.
